GM Diet Plan

The GM diet is a short term diet but very rigorous nonetheless, for which reason you need to prepare appropriately. You must plan in advance and arrange for the required ingredients so that you don’t give into temptation when having a bout of extreme hunger. Such events are inevitable on days 1 through 3 when you are mainly consuming fruits and vegetables. Also, persons on a vegetarian diets can find it particularly difficult to follow through the entire week, especially on days 5 and day 6, where it is recommended to consume beef. You can refer to the post “gm diet plan veg” on the blog for appropriate substitutes for vegetarians. A version of  the “GM diet plan vegetarian” provides substitutes based on the food groups i.e. proteins, being the key area of any issue.

The GM diet plan needs to be broken down based on basic food groups through the week. Listed below is the standard gm diet plan menu or GM diet plan chart for each of the days:

GM Diet – Beginner’s Guide

The GM diet or the General Motors diet was designed by the company for its employees to promote healthy lifestyle. It is a focused 7 day plan designed to cleanse the body and help detoxify in a manner of speaking. The plan involves consuming only healthy foods like raw fruits, vegetables, milk. Something that parents all over the world have been asking their kids to do since the beginning of time! Yes the terms of this diet are that harsh. The chickens have come home to roost.

In addition to being a healthy and complete balanced diet, the gm diet plan also promotes accelerated weight loss of up 5 to 7 kilos or 10 to pounds. However, any weight loss attributed to the GM Diet must be a secondary thought. The goal of attempting to “diet gm” should first and foremost be to commit to a healthy lifestyle overall. The GM diet plan can be a brilliant way to kick off one’s path to a healthy routine, which involves healthy food and regular exercise. You may call this an entire effort as “gm diet exercise”.

The GM Diet Plan

The plan here is to split your food intake in such a way that over a week the body gets all the nutrition it needs through healthy food. Each day of the week during this diet will be a combination of distinct food groups as listed below:

GM diet Day 1

On the first day of the diet, the only thing that is allowed is fruits (preferably without any salt or depressing).  Eat as much as your heart desires, but only fruits with the exception of bananas. Bananas are not to be consumed on Day 1. Feast on apples, plums, strawberries, papayas, melons etc. till you are full. The first day on the gm diet is the hardest, so at least have the hunger aspect covered as much as you can. The first day may also be called a “0” carb day as you are consuming virtually no calories at all with an all fruit diet. Read more about gm diet day 1.

GM diet Day 2

The second day is all about the vegetables. Start your day with a boiled potato with a pinch of salt and a little butter would add some flavour to the potato. That is all the carbs you intake for day 2. The remainder of the day is all about vegetables and lots of them. Feast on carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, salad leaves like iceberg lettuce, bell peppers etc. Tomatoes are not allowed on day 2. By all means add a little salt for taste to the vegetables to make them more edible. You can even boil the vegetables to make it easier to consume. It is recommended though, that they be consumed raw. It’s the best way to get all the nutrition. Read more about gm diet day 2.

GM diet Day 3

Day 3 of the diet is a combination of the day 1 and day 2. You are to consume both fruits and vegetables with exception of potatoes, tomatoes and bananas. This day is very important in the diet psychologically. If you are able to make it through for the first 3 days, 60% of your work is already done. Not only would you be feeling lighter, you would have also lost around 2-3 kilos of weight. Read more about gm diet day 3.

GM diet Day 4

Day 4 of the gm diet plan is a bit more streamlined. There are only two items to consume during the day; Milk & bananas. You may look at having up to a litre of milk and up to 5 bananas during the day. You can also have cabbage soup during the day when you feel hungry. The recipe for which is shared in the dedicate post for “Soups”. Read more about gm diet day 4.

GM diet Day 5

GM diet day 5 is a feast day. On day 5, you can have up to 5 tomatoes and beef. The day 5 gm diet menu is designed to address the protein intake for the week. Feel free to substitute the beef with pork or chicken if you don’t prefer beef. You may consume a cup of chicken. Spread it out over the course of the day in order to avoid feeling hungry for long spans. Drinking plenty of water just as each day, is very important. Read more about gm diet day 5.

GM diet Day 6

If day 5 was a feast, day 6 is like New Year’s party. It’s all you can eat day. You may consume as much beef as you like with as many vegetables you like. There are variations for this plan indeed. You can reference gm diet vegetarian plans online or on this website. You can mix and match, but the basic groups should remain the same. The gm diet is a carefully, scientifically designed diet plan. Any modifications would have not yield the desired results. It is important to drink lots of water during this diet and exercise if you are up for it to see truly astonishing results.

Does GM diet work

Being a little skeptical about whether a diet plan will work or not is a very natural response. Changing your diet is more than just switching the food items that you consume. It is more of a restriction that you are placing on your own self. This is a standard, to which very few people can live up to. That being said, if you need to make the change to your lifestyle, it is very important that you do so, without fail and do it well.

We here like maths a lot, simply because it helps put things in context whenever we feel overwhelmed. So, on the one hand, you place a restriction of eating certain food items and on the other hand, you have to decide for how long. So here’s solution, the GM diet. This diet plan, severely restricts your food items but you only do it for seven days. Also, for each of the seven days, you get to eat a different kind of food item. This means, you get restrictions but in compensation, you receive a very short timeline, a nice variety of food items over the week long duration of the GM diet plan and you will end up losing a few pounds in the process as well. That’s 3 pros vs 1 con. But this deal seems to be, “too good to be true”. Does the GM diet work?

This arrangement is really that good. You can review the GM diet plan in one of the posts on this site. A few things would become clear right of the bat:

  1. It is a diet based on mostly raw food items. Raw foods tend to be much better for the body as compared to cooked or processed foods. Increases metabolism
  2. Also, the diet plan advocates to eat in short intervals. Frankly, if you don’t do this, you die of hunger. So you have to keep eating at regular intervals during the day. This also boosts your metabolism.
  3. Up until the last day, the only sugar (carbohydrates or calories) being consumed are through fruits. These are all healthy and way less than the amount your body burns off daily, even without working out.
  4. All meals are short, but filling. This implies more value per bite in terms of satiating your hunger.
  5. The diet recommends that you eat every couple hours and nothing after 6 PM. This way your heightened metabolism works overtime when you go off to bed.

To sum up, the GM diet plan, if followed properly gives a solid boost to your metabolism over a week while consuming drastically less number of calories than you burn everyday. Mathematically put, simple subtraction would demonstrate that you would come out on top by loosing some weight. However, if you really want to see gm diet plan results, you might want put a little time at the gym or at least start thinking about making a long term healthy lifestyle, which involves bimonthly stints of the GM diet, with regular exercise.

So does the GM diet really work? We strongly say it does!

GM Diet Week Challenge – Day 2

Every hypothesis must be tested so that the truth may emerge to illuminate the path for the rest. Keeping in that spirit a friend of ours decided to put the GM diet to the test. He will try to attempt the various techniques and methodologies we have discussed on this site and verify the results for all of us. So let’s quickly review the main aspects of the daily plan.

The main things that are going to be focused upon are the diet and the extent of the workout since our friend is relatively active in the gym and otherwise because the nature of his work. But he has agreed to this because he himself wants to lose a little weight.  So let’s break down his routine for GM Day 1. The day is broken up into three phases, each phase having two meals each. We are also highlighting any signs of discomfort felt at any time during the day:

Morning Phase (6 AM – 12 PM)

He wakes up early at 6 AM and does 15 minutes of stretches covering some of the physical activity for the morning. At around 7 AM before starting for work, he has a mashed potato by boiling and adding a teaspoon of butter and a little salt for flavor. He carries along with him a packet of raw and peeled carrots for munching at any time during the day. Around 9 AM, he consumes up to 3 carrots.

Symptoms: Feeling full and energetic.

Afternoon Phase (12 PM – 3 PM)

At around 12:30, for lunch, he picks up an assorted vegetable salad (with no tomato and no heavy dressing). Tomatoes are not allowed on day 2 of gm diet). He then snacks around 1:30 PM on few of the carrots again, leaving enough for another snack till he stays at work.

Symptoms: At this stage, he is feeling very light headed but should not be feeling hungry.

‘Prevening’ Phase (3 PM – 6 PM)

As Sheldon Cooper from “The Big Bang Theory”, coined this very ambiguous time of day “prevening”…not afternoon and not evening.  At around 4 PM, our friend consumes the remaining grapes before leaving for home from work. At around he has his dinner. At this time, he chooses to eat half a watermelon along with a couple of apples with a little seasoning.

Symptoms: He feels a little weak, craving his favorite comfort foods after a long day at work.

Today, no exercise is required and frankly can’t be done feeling the way he does. But the first day of the GM diet plan has come to an end and he is a little lighter as per the digital scale in his bathroom by almost a kilogram. Before going to bed, he prepares his menu for day 2 of the GM diet.

Evaluate your GM diet results

According to the Hindu mythology, it is believed that the every action is its own reward. Therefore, you should never base your actions, based on the perceived rewards on offer. To put this in context for our goal to strive towards a healthy lifestyle, you should lead a healthy lifestyle because you must and not to impress anyone, not even yourself. On the one hand I deeply appreciate this philosophy, but not for a second wouldn’t I congratulate myself on achieving my goals. And to do so, one needs measurable goals.

When taking on a project, which shows progress over considerable time, having clear and measurable goals can be very motivating to keep going through to the end of the project without falling off the wagon. In this regard, the GM diet is a challenging but short term plan to loose excess weight. This implies that the progress should be monitored carefully to ensure maximum results.  GM diet weight loss results, can vary for a variety of reasons. Let us look into such reasons in more depth.

Results of the GM diet plan can vary because of the below listed factors:

  1. Simply not following along with the GM diet plan. The GM diet has a strict guide for food items that can be consumed each day. If the dieter drifts away from the plan, he/she may not notice any visible results at all.
  2. A common mistake made by most people, when taking on the GM diet is that they do not carefully read through the quantities allowed on GM diet Day 4 and GM diet day 5. On these days the number of bananas and tomatoes should not exceed the prescribed amount. In case you feel hungry, you may have a small quantity of clear soup to satiate untimely hunger sensations.
  3. Consuming bananas and tomatoes on GM diet Day 1 and GM diet Day 2 respectively. These are the two items, which are strictly prohibited on these days for a variety of reasons. Bananas during the GM diet day 1 and GM diet day 3 do not aid weight loss. As a matter of fact, bananas are only consumed for the potassium and iron value it provides unlike other fruits that are rich in vitamins and minerals.

The GM diet review results can be done every other day, to make the sure of the following checks:

  1. The weight loss progress – Almost every day of the GM diet, especially the first three days, more specifically GM diet day 3, you will notice a weight loss of approximately 3 kilograms. That is half the battle won.
  2. The next check is to go over the list and ensure that all items required for the next two days available in the required quantities.
  3. Lastly, every day ensure you do not after 6 PM and lights out at 10 PM. You should never go to bed after a meal as the body burns food faster when you are awake. A good night sleep is very important to a healthy lifestyle.

If the above steps are followed, you just may make the most of your week long GM diet plan.

Side Effects of the GM Diet

GM diet side effects are often a concern among those who attempt this diet plan. But try and recall the saying, “you are, what you eat” is pretty universal in nature. It may as well be an actual law in itself. Whether you judge on quantity or quality, the statement holds true. If you eat too much, you gain weight and if you eat less, you become unhealthy; developing various kinds of eating disorders. Similarly, if you eat fatty foods, you become unhealthy and if you have a healthy and balanced diet you live and feel healthy overall. In other words, there is always an effect; positive or negative to your body, depending on what you put in to it. This saying is very apt for the GM diet.

The GM diet plan can be considered like a compact version of the message described above. However, it takes it too extreme, and thus there are always going to be certain side effects to it. Consider the situation for a moment. Lets assume that the GM diet is taken up by some one whose lifestyle is detailed by the following features:

  1. He/she regularly eats fast food like pizzas/burgers/potato chips/soda etc.
  2. He/she barely has any physical exercise
  3. He/she hardly sleeps more than 4 hours every night
  4. With habits such as these, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine if such a person also has their blood cholesterol level on the higher side, taking a conservative estimate.

If this is a regular routine for someone, you can imagine that they are quite comfortable in it as well. Now if they suddenly switch to a week long GM diet, what do you think is going to happen? The body will react quite immediately when being starved of the high quantities of sugar and salt in their diet. The human body in a way is always looking for normalizing the body functions. You may feel such symptoms when you work out after a break, the muscles are sore. The same happens when you change your diet. The body resists and this resistance is evidenced in the body’s reaction in the way of side effects.

However, there is a silver lining. When we embark on the GM diet, these cravings and side effects stop being extreme by the fourth day without starving the body. Please review below the effects by day in the GM diet menu

  1. On the first day of the GM diet, the dieter may end up feeling dizzy and light headed because of the drastic change in the diet and general lack of sugar and salt. But importantly on GM diet day 1 and day 2, the body is low are regular intake of carbohydrates. All that is being consumed, is in from the sugars in the fruits and vegetables.
  2. You may feel the color of your stool changing every other day. Don’t be alarmed. This may be particularly odd of GM diet day 5 and GM diet day 6 as these are the days for intake of protein and iron rich foods.
  3. The color of urine may also change on GM diet day 5.
  4. In order to avoid the last two side effects, please drink plenty of water during the these days specifically.

Please feel free to leave any messages to list out any other major side effects that you may encounter when you try the the GM diet.

GM Diet – Exercise

It is very common to question the validity of a diet plan. After all, it is ultimately a challenge to undertake and one expects positive results overall at the end. In most cases, diet plans in themselves aren’t really designed but based on other people’s experiences. However, the GM diet plan is a plan, which, was designed by General motors, hence the name “GM diet”.

The most important feature of the GM diet plan is that you are not required to starve at any time. Also, during the week you are pursuing the diet plan, you will be covering all the food groups. So in a way, there is nothing you can’t consume, unless it’s healthy for you.

Nevertheless, no diet is completely effective unless it is complemented with a regular exercise routine. Exercise during GM diet can be very helpful to attain the expected results. It is very important that the diet plan be considered as a first step to changing your lifestyle for the better. A healthy lifestyle has equal parts both of diet and a good exercise regime. GM diet and exercise go hand in hand You can follow any of the below listed workout plans as per your capacity.

  1. Interval Training – Interval training is not meant to be taken on at an extreme level from the get go. Depending on how comfortable you are with physical effort, you can pace yourself. The basic approach here is to simply have short bursts of high intensity cardio at regular intervals during your workout. The simplest way to do this would be to consider bursts of 2 mins each wherein you jog at a comfortable pace for 30 secs and then speed walk at a lower speed  (on a treadmill) for 1 min and 30 seconds. Build upto sprints from jogs over time. You can do this for 30 mins on alternate days during the week.
  2. 3-2-1 workout – This workout is highly advertised by Jillian Michaels. It is possibly the best kind of workout to melt away the fat in your body. There are various versions of this diet available online. Feel free to look for one that suits you and follow as well as you can.

In the end, it is all about discipline. Whether it is the diet or the complementing exercises. It can be said that gm diet with exercise would lead to amazing results. It is ultimately up to you and you alone. Best of luck!
